Help shape your next good read.
Help us make Tenkrel a better place to read Hacker News. Join the group now, then try the Android app when the test opens.
This test is for people aged 18 and over. You’ll need a Google account and an Android 7 or newer device. On-device personalization requires Android 8 or newer. Use the same Google account for the group, Google Play and your phone.
1. Join the tester group
- Use Join the tester group above to open Tenkrel Testers’ public About page.
- If you see Sign in at the top right, sign in with the Google account you use in the Play Store on your phone.
- Choose Join group, select your membership preferences, and confirm. If Google takes you to My groups after sign-in, return here and open the joining link again.
Already a member? You do not need to join again. Continue with the Google Play invitation below.
2. Opt in on Google Play
Open the invitation below with the same Google account you joined the group with. When Google Play offers enrollment, choose Become a tester.
Become a tester on Google PlayGoogle Play may show “App not available” while release approval is pending. If that happens, stay in the tester group and try this link again after approval.
3. Install and explore
Once Play confirms enrollment, follow its download link. Read stories and discussions, try dismissing and restoring a story, and explore For you. Early versions may have bugs.
Send feedback to tenkrel@zachy.dev. Tell us your app version, Android version, what you expected and what happened. Avoid sharing private information in screenshots.
Having trouble joining?
“You don’t have permission to access this content”: this can appear on the group’s private Conversations page. It does not mean you need an invitation. The joining button above opens the public About page instead. Sign in to Google there before joining.
No Join group button: first check whether you are signed in or already a member. If sign-in returned you to My groups, reopen the joining link from this page.
Google Play says the app is unavailable: enrollment must be open, and Groups and Play must use the same account. If you’re already an internal tester, leave the internal test before opting into this closed test. Access can take several hours after a release becomes available, and depends on your device and country.
Your choice, your data
This page does not collect an email address or automatically enroll you. Google handles group membership and Play enrollment. Group owners can see membership details such as your email address. See Google’s privacy policy and Tenkrel’s privacy policy.
You can leave the test on Google Play and leave the Google Group separately at any time. Leaving either does not erase app data already on your phone; use Android’s app storage controls to remove it.
